DSA-Secondary or DSA-JC
It’s ideal to begin in Primary 4 for DSA-SEC and in Secondary 2 to 3 for DSA-JC, as a student's portfolio should be no older than two years. Our DSA students will be at an advanced level, focused on refining and perfecting their craft in preparation for the school they aim to enter.
NAFA, Lasalle or others
Developing your portfolio starting from Secondary 2 to 3, your portfolio should be tailored to your intended major; such as animation, fashion design, fine arts, or other specialized fields. The portfolio will showcase a diverse range of projects that demonstrate both technical ability and creative vision, all while aligning with the specific requirements and expectations of the intended major. This approach ensures that by the time students apply for DSA or other specialized programs, their portfolio is well-developed, relevant, and competitive.

Choosing your teacher/ art instructors is important.
Private teachers often have extensive, up-to-date knowledge, as they continuously work with students to develop their portfolios. Moreover, these teachers are usually graduates of art schools themselves and are familiar with the application process and expectations.
Able to provide reliable advise based on students abilities.
By working more closely with parents, teachers can foster greater transparency and provide a holistic yet realistic assessment of each student’s abilities. This collaborative approach helps identify areas for improvement while supporting the development of each student’s skills simultaneously. Developing a portfolio for visual arts is a collaborative effort from the student, their teacher as well as parents.
Students tend to get exposure to wider variety of mediums and art styles
To maintain a competitive chance of acceptance, students will usually be exposed to a greater variety of art forms, styles, mediums, and techniques, while giving students their freedom to explore what they enjoy.
Develops a better portfolio compared to a public educator.
In most instances, private teachers are not overwhelmed by the number of students they are teaching, allowing them to give equal attention to each student. This ensures that every student receives the support and guidance they need to succeed. Therefore, student's portfolios turns out to be more personalised and competitive.
Able to train students beyond just visual arts.
Building confidence in students, teaching them to trust in their new found skill, training and preparing students for verbal interviews, presentations, written assignments, and more.
Teachers are often well-versed in the expectations of the various schools
Private teachers are often more familiar with the expectations, preferences, and specific guidelines of individual schools. They can also provide valuable advice on a student’s likelihood of being accepted based on their scores and abilities.
Why is it essential to work with private educators when building a portfolio?
